Pacemaker Follow-up

PacemakerPacemakers are implanted devices that give an impulse to the heart to beat, when the heart's own electrical conducting system is diseased. Pacemakers must be periodically checked in the office.

How is the procedure performed?

A computerized detector placed over the pacemaker can give information about the remaining battery charge as well as the sensitivity and function of the pacemaker leads in the heart. "Events", such as arrhythmias (irregular beats) are stored by the pacemaker and can be retrieved and analyzed by the physician during pacemaker follow-up.
